Indoor "hydroponics"

You guys have probably seen the image below. This is one of my favorite images. When I started on Pinterest it was probably my first saved image. It has also led to my little collection of no soil plants.

I have a small garden compared to my previous few years of container gardening. And when I prune I keep some of the best cuttings and root them in water. Please take note of the following:

  1. Not all the cuttings will survive;
  2. In my experience still mineral or distilled water is much more preferable to tap water;
  3. This is only a temporary feature - most of these plants are supposed to be planted in well draining soil! They will not stay healthy for ever. Enjoy it while it lasts and then place them in the ground.
Here are some of my plants:

One can try different plants. The ones I have tried are the ones from my garden. They include:
  1. Ivy
  2. Hypoestes (ribbon plant)
  3. Salvia leucantha (cant believe this plant survived and as above it even started flowering)
  4. Creeping viola
  5. Rosemary
There is a whole list of other plants. You can check out this article from Apartment Therapy regarding no soil planting. It is a very useful site, similar to Gardenista I would say.

So happy gardening and stay safe and be kind to your neighbor.
